meet Steve

“When I grow up I want to be a Realtor”—not really. These were not my hopes and dreams as a boy. It was more like: “When I grow up I want to play in the Big Leagues”. I wanted to be a baseball pitcher travelling around and playing ball with the likes of pitchers Roy Halliday and Chris Carpenter. I got as far as the AA’s where I played against some amazingly gifted latino players. At 6’5” I was a midget among giants—these guys had arms like slingshots and they played year round with water logged baseballs so throwing a fastball at 95 miles per hour was just “common”. I tried hard to compete, but five arm injuries later, I finally realized pitching in the Majors was not my destiny. At 23, I was back in Canada dazed and confused—a retired baseball pro.

I found work as a sales guy at a national paper and printing company where I quickly became regional manager thanks to my ability to open new accounts and resilience to frequent rejection by cold calls. Though peddling paper didn’t inspire me, something about sales really stirred up my passion. I went on to sell drugs—the prescription kind—at a leading pharmaceutical company and then construction material for a global construction company. All the while I was dabbling a little in real estate investing and by accident, I found my true passion when I sold my first property. I realized how important strategy and smart negotiation tactics were in selling or buying real estate. And I also realized I was pretty good at both.

I discovered that nothing stirs up more emotion in people than buying or selling their home. Helping clients to navigate through the emotional maze when searching for a new family home or coaching them when they prepare to move out of their current home is the most rewarding part of my job. By doing this with compassion, patience and a deep knowledge of the Ottawa real estate market, I have built some pretty amazing relationships. Clients have become close friends and of this I am highly delighted, and also a little proud. From travelling on a bus like a nomad in my 20’s, I have evolved into a happily rooted family guy in my 30’s—I love Ottawa and I love having my friends nearby, many of whom started out as clients.

I am a fully licensed and committed professional Realtor and a member of the Ottawa Real Estate Board and the Canadian Real Estate Association. I have successfully completed the Ontario Real Estate Association Phase 1, 2 and 3 courses, as well as Real Property Law and Real Estate Investment Analysis.

I am a husband, a dad, a dog lover and a yoga and running enthusiast. I live and work in the heart of our city and I love and celebrate the urban lifestyle.

doing some good

In general, I consider myself to be a very fortunate person. So, during my spare time when I am not at the dog park with my Dalmatian, goofing off and trying to make my son laugh, or clearing my mind in a yoga class, I give my time to charity.

Recently, I have decided to partner with the Caring and Sharing Exchange because they raise monies to help the less fortunate in our community. I chose the Caring and Sharing Exchange because as a child, my wife and her family received assistance from a similar organization. She fondly remembers the Christmas hampers that were delivered to her home before the holidays and how much joy these generous packages brought to her parents and brother and sisters. I have always found her story touching and inspiring and I hope my efforts will make a positive impact in the lives of other deserving children and families.

Right now, I am pledging to personally donate $1 to the Caring and Sharing Exchange for each Twitter follower I gain between June 1st and June 30th. So join my followers and tell your friends and family about my pledge. I look forward to writing a substantial cheque!

“Steve Walsh is a breath of fresh air to deal with in the buying and selling of real estate. He sets himself far above the rest particularly rising above any ‘Realtor’ stigmas. He is honest, straightforward, professional, listens to your needs/parametres as a purchaser and deals with a sense of urgency to ensure as much of a stress free experience during a typically stressfull time when you are either buying or selling a home. I would highly recommend Steve to anyone.”
